Reflection

When I began studying at ACCC, I never imagined I would have the amount of experience I have now. I've come a long way personally and professionally. Through my coursework and volunteering, I learned how to be a leader, manage my time efficiently, and complete challenging tasks. My experience at Stockton has been extremely positive, and I learned many things about the environment and about myself. I love the outdoors and I realized that I could have a career where I am outside doing fieldwork. This is where my main interest lies; I love exploring the natural world, collecting samples, researching and learning as much as I can. I have acquired many skills from the courses I've completed at Stockton, such as conducting research and creating reports, GIS maps, performing statistical analyses, and being able to work in the field or in a lab.
My personal interests have developed from the skills that I have learned. I am very interested in GIS and its applications, and I plan on improving that skill set. I am fascinated by ecology now that I understand biodiversity, species interaction, population dynamics, and ecological systems. I am also very interested in environmental pollution, and I have learned many concepts through coursework in that area. I am fully aware of environmental pollution sources and the impacts on our environment and human health. I understand water issues, energy, and climate change through my coursework in environmental issues and in my preparation for my northwest/southwest fieldwork experience. I hope to be working professionally towards reducing environmental pollution and researching climate change.
